Bongoyo Island

Bongoyo Island is an uninhabited island in Tanzania, situated 2.5km north of Dar es Salaam city. Bongoyo Island is part of the four islands of Dar es Salaam Marine Reserve (DMRS), and it is the most frequently visited island.

Bongoyo is a leisure island and most popular daytrip for both locals and tourists, mostly used for relaxation, snorkeling in the crystal blue waters and sunbathing. The island is easily accessible as it lies close to Msasani Peninsula, and is reachable by means of a 30-minute boat ride from the mainland.

Not only beautiful white sands beach and the crystal blue waters, the island also offers an option to do a little walking around on and across the island, there is lagoons and a mangrove forest for exploration, and the remains of a German colonial building. There is also a restaurant within the island where you can buy some freshly caught seafood and drinks.
